Yoga has been a constant in my life for the last 7 years. After completing 200-hour yoga instructor certification in India (Kranti Yoga School), I spent a month traveling around the country. During this time I had the opportunity to visit public and private schools, and spend time with the children. I was intrigued to find out that yoga was commonly taught as a part of the child’s curriculum. Shortly after returning home from India, I began to research how I could incorporate yoga into the lives of others, specifically targeting more diversity and making yoga more accessible. Roots Wellness was born out of this passion, using yoga as the catalyst to bring people together - and in turn helping them be happier and healthier.
Working at Camp SAMBICA, facilitating camps internationally through Children of the Nations, and growing up with three younger siblings of my own has helped me fuse together my passion for yoga and helping kids. Additionally, I have recieved my 27-hr specialty certification in kids yoga, through Rainbow Kids Yoga School. Yoga’s non-competitive nature provides a nurturing environment for kids to explore and learn more about how their bodies move. Creating self-awareness through poses and telling stories through sequences and interaction keeps the kids involved and engaged. Teaching kids how to use their breath gives them a sense of self, grounds them in the here and now, and helps regulate their stress and anxiety.
There is so much pressure in our society today that is placed on our children, yoga is a beautiful art and science to help them find peace and calm - while having FUN!
If I’m not enjoying yoga, I can be found exploring the Washington wilderness on any and every hiking trail, usually with a furry friend by my side.
